Celebrating Totally Wild Moms

Moms are something special. Whether they are human or out in the wild, mothers have an incredible instinct to protect, nurture, and guide their young. From first steps to life lessons, moms are always there, keeping their kids safe and helping them grow. This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating not just human moms, but the amazing animal mothers you can encounter at Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch.

Giraffe Moms
Giraffe moms take motherhood to new heights. After a 15-month pregnancy, they give birth standing up, meaning their calf enters the world with a six-foot drop. Talk about a dramatic entrance. Within hours, that newborn is up and walking. Giraffe moms also team up, forming nurseries where calves hang out together while a few moms stand guard. It’s like daycare, but with a much better view.

Zebra Moms
Zebra moms make sure their babies never lose them in a crowd. Right after birth, a mom will help her foal memorize her unique stripe pattern, scent, and voice. That way, no matter how big the herd gets, her baby knows exactly who to run to. And if danger shows up, zebra moms are quick to step in and protect their little ones.

Rhino Moms
Rhino moms are the definition of strong and steady. They raise their calves for up to three years, teaching them everything they need to know along the way. You’ll often see a baby rhino sticking close behind its mom, using her as both a guide and a very large, very effective bodyguard.
Primate Moms
Primate moms keep things hands-on. Babies cling tight to mom as she moves, climbs, and explores. As they grow, playtime becomes learning time, with moms teaching social skills, problem solving, and how to navigate their world. It’s a mix of cuddles, chaos, and constant supervision.
Antelope Moms
Antelope moms have a clever strategy. When their babies are very young, they’ll hide them in tall grass and return throughout the day to feed them. It may look like they’re leaving, but they’re actually keeping their babies safe by staying out of sight of predators. It’s a quiet kind of care, but a powerful one.
More Wild Moms
Across the Ranch, every species has its own style of motherhood. Some moms stay close, some give space, and some rely on the strength of the herd. But they all have one thing in common. They do whatever it takes to raise the next generation.
Give Mom a Wild Year
This Mother’s Day, celebrate the mom in your life with a gift that lasts all year. A Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch Wild Card Annual Pass gives her unlimited self-guided safari visits plus admission to the Walk-A-Bout, featuring the Monkey’n Around primate area and playground. It’s a chance to make memories again and again, because Mom deserves more than just a day. She deserves a wild year. Learn More >>
