Teacher's Guide to Conservation Prompt

For today's Wildlife Writing Wednesday, we have provided a broad introductory prompt to introduce the wildlife writing theme for this year.

PROMPT:

Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch works to provide a healthy and sound environment for the animals that call our sanctuary "home." We strive to ensure the survival and reproduction of more than 45 diverse species from around the world for future generations to enjoy. Name some species of wildlife you know, and give an explanation for what conservation is. Why is conservation important? What role does a place like NBWR play in worldwide conservation?

Please note, you may reference the International Union for the Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species to know the level of risk or threat to endangerment/extinction different species face: iucnredlist.org.

We're excited for you to use wildlife-related prompts in your classroom.

Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch, Inc. is a Family Land Heritage Property that has been ranched within the same family for more than 100 years. Our mission and obligation is to provide a healthy and sound environment for the animals that call our sanctuary home. We strive to ensure the survival and reproduction of these diverse species from around the world for future generations to enjoy, while providing a memorable, entertaining, and educational experience for our visitors.

With this in mind, it is a privilege to use your classroom as a vessel to educate students about the importance of these diverse species and their conservation.

To give you a brief run-down of the Ranch’s role and affiliations related to conservation:

We love animals, but for the safety of your animal and ours, OUTSIDE ANIMALS INCLUDING PETS AND SERVICE ANIMALS ARE NOT ALLOWED. "At a zoo, service animals can be restricted from areas where the animals on display are the natural prey or natural predators of dogs, where the presence of a dog would be disruptive, causing the displayed animals to behave aggressively or become agitated."
